Ramsey County Commissioner Support for Matt Bostrom

"Tom, it's been a privilege this morning to once again publicly endorse Matt Bostrom for Sheriff of Ramsey County.

I have known Matt's family for many years - in fact his grandfather worked on my first legislative campaign back in the 70's. Over years as a St. Paul Police Officer, State Legislator, US Marshal, and now as Ramsey County Commissioner for 14 years ,I have been impressed with Matt's abilities ...

Matt Bostrom is a man of great vision, hard work, and integrity and is a great administrator. He is the best candidate for Ramsey County Sheriff. There are six of us who are co-chairing Matt's campaign and one of those is Victoria Reinhardt, the chair of your Ramsey County Board. There are Republicans and Democrats among those six.

Your County Sheriff has to work with the County Board. He must appear before the Board to discuss his budget requests and other operational issues. I know personally what is it like to work with Bob Fletcher and it's not always pleasant.

The relationship between your county board and the sheriff has been very challenging. The present Sheriff has continually been over budget. Sheriff Fletcher uses public bullying on the board to push for his agenda and additional money needs which are many times caused by his own mismanagement of his department.

His is a department that needs tighter management and administrative controls. For starters an updated Sheriff's Policy and Procedure Manual, that key document has not been updated for sixteen years - which may be the reason that there have been no employee evaluations in Fletcher's sixteen years as Sheriff.

The lack of planning is costing the taxpayers. The employment lawsuits brought by former deputies because Bob Fletcher demoted officers who did not support his re-election efforts have cost the county large amounts of money.
Now is the time to bring integrity, management, administrative abilities and the leadership of Matt Bostrom to the Ramsey County Sheriff's office. I support Matt Bostrom and I am asking all the voters of Ramsey County to also support him.

I have known a few little side things but I leave those for a later time.

Matt Bostrom has strong public support from Democrats, Republicans and Independents. He has support from nearly every labor union. He has support of city leaders in every city in Ramsey County. That is over 22 cities. He has support from law enforcement throughout the county.

The reason for this support is simple. Matt Bostrom has the experience, the right character and temperament to lead our Sheriff's Department.

We need a Sheriff that administers public safety and assistance to all the communities of the county - fairly and professionally. We want a Sheriff who does not manage based on fear. We need a department where all employees know they are being led and managed honesty, fairly and professionally.

Again I am encouraging all of you to hear this message -- get out there and talk to people - it's time for a NEW Sheriff for Ramsey County - and that is Matt Bostrom."
