Special Report: 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

The Olympic torch relay continues its domestic tour, and it has just passed through its second stop in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region: Kashgar city.
The relay started at 9:45 this morning at the Id Kah Square. A total of 208 torchbearers participated, the same number as the previous stop in Urumqi. The first torchbearer was Chinese ace "high-wire" walker Adili. Adili is the descendant of a Uygur family with a 430-year history in a field of acrobatics known as "Dawazi" in western China.

The relay covered a distance of 6.5 kilometers and lasted about 2 hours. It ended at the Kashgar People's Square. Kashgar is west of the Taklamakan Desert in Southern Xinjiang and about 1500 kilometers from Umruqi.

The torch relay will be held in two other cites in the region, first in Shihezi and then Changji.

  • In my recent Central Asia trip, there is no doubt in my mind that Urumqi is "the" LARAGEST and MOST PROSPERIOUS city in Central Asia (among cities of Astana, Almaty, Taskkent, Ashgabat, ...). I will post more videos that I have taken in Urumqi and Kashgar (including the night markets). People are very relaxing and staying outside as late as passing the 12 midnight in the weekdays.

It's so relaxing! Lots families with their children out playing in the park.

  • Great! Go Olympic! Go Xinjiang, Go China.

  • Uyghur children are unbelievably friendly, they love to take pictures with foreign tourists! They are absolutely adorable! You won't see anything like this in any big city in West! The square in front of the main Mosque in Kashagr are full of people during the evening.

The only thing you worried was the pickpockets, LOLLL! But pickpockets are everywhere in the world, and everyone knew that pickpockets in South European countries are the worst!

  • then dont do intimidating things

  • uyghurnews: I just happened to be in Kashgar two weeks ago, What I said is what I saw.

The night market in both Kashgar and Urumqi were FULL OF PEOPLE, you could hardly move around. People stayed outside VERY LATE in the weekday nights, talking, playing.

See my videos I posted on my channel, it was taken on June 1st, afternoon, on a main street close to downtown Kashgar. See how many people there.
