@waypasthadenough There won't be a shared burden if you calculate the external costs into the products themselves. That gives the customer an accurate picture of how much their consuming actually cost and the competition in the free market will take care of the rest.
This is not the case in your libertarian daydream where corporations can fuck over the planet, let the people take the burden without knowing it so they can buy the cheapest products. It's stealth communism.
Their version of 'sharing the burden' comes at the point of a govt. gun , shoved into every aspect of our lives.
You don't replace one evil, the global conglomerates, with a greater evil, global communism(which is largely funded by the conglomerates by the way) and claim you've accomplished something without lying.
@waypasthadenough Actually it's the other way around. Leaving environmental damage unaccounted for means that the everyone in society will share the same burden. What does 'sharing the same burden' remind you off? That's right, communism.
External costs shifted on society by corporations need to be calculated back on those very same corporations if you want a truly free market. It's the environmentalists that fight for this.

Most 'environmentalists' are really communists. They use real and imagined issues as further excuses for controlling every aspect of our lives.
