Glenn Yarbrough is an American folk singer who has a very distinct timbre to his beautiful tenor voice. In 1957 he was one of the first singers to record the traditional "The House of the Rising Sun". He was the lead singer with "The Limeliters" between 1959 and 1963. He recorded the theme tune from the 1965 film, "Baby, The Rain Must Fall", which reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He also provided vocals for the Rankin/Bass animated versions of "The Hobbit" (1977) and "The Return Of The King" (1980). This selection, written by Rod McKuen, was included on his 1964 album "Time To Move On."

  • I first heard this song in a movie years ago ( can't think of it ) you wouldn't happen to know the title of it would you ?

  • Sorry, but I'm not a movie buff. In fact, the only times I have ever heard this song have been from my LP.

  • It just occurred to me that you may be thinking of another of Glenn's songs, "Baby, The Rain Must Fall". It was the title song from the Steve McQueen movie of the same name and was his biggest hit. It's posted (excellent post) by gcovert1948 on YouTube.

  • I found Stanyan street on imesh

  • Marvelous song. Thank you for posting it. Any chance of posting 'Stanyan Street'? I recently visited San Francisco, and seeing Stanyan street brought back fond memories of the song, and its words.

  • Glenn's voice was like a religion to me.I was privileged to see Glenn once in concert and enjoyed sharing the same air. Thank you Glenn for sharing your gift. We are all the richer for it. More please.

  • Beautiful, thank you for sharing....Peace

  • A favorite of mine; so glad to find it on You Tube. Thanks for posting! I play this every day. Never get tired of his perfect phrasing and beautiful voice!

  • What a lovely song and sung so beautifully by Glenn Yarbrough. He articulates each word, not like singers of today. He was the best of the Limeliters and made many great albums on his own. You don't hear voices as distinctive as his any more.

  • This album includes Yarbrough's best song ever: "If It Fits Your Fancy". It's never shown up on YouTube....a terrible omission. It's not on any anthology CD to this day.

  • Almost as good as Jimmie Rodgers version.

  • You can never miss Glenn's voice - so unique.

  • @sapphiretaurus Great comparison. Gale Garnett's song was especially refreshing for the fact that its anti-hero was a woman! In the Sixties this was a first - quite different from, say, Sandy Posey's message: "I was born a woman and I was bound to be hurt." Garnett made what truly was a radical statement of strength, independence, and self-possession that gave voice to aspiring feminists everywhere. A great message & a great song, sung with an attractive cavalier élan.
