Russell was at the world premiere tonight with Dan on camera and they've captured the moment -- 20 minutes worth of star footage -- so much that we've delivered it in two parts and here's the second, the one with the stars of the film.
Just because we haven't seen the film yet and for all you fashion fans out there here is a special one off ....
Russell Reviews Girls Fashion.....
As expected SJP made Carrie proud by wearing something no other human being would have even remotely considered. She wore a floaty green knee length dress crafted by Brit designer Alexander McQueen. A fitted bodice top leading down to a prom dress style light ruffling of fabric. She breezed on top of at least five inches of heels but all the action was upstairs. Perhaps afraid that she may blend in with all the fashonistas in the crowd she wore a two foot high Philip Treacy hat, consisting of a front-mounted miniature acorn style beret and an elaborate plumage of flowers butterflies and perhaps even a small tree. Much like Carrie it's the kind of hit or miss style likely to trouble many...genius or madness....? At the very least it made her easier to spot.
Next up her on-screen pal and off screen rival (according to the rumour mill) Kim Catrall wore a scarlet red off the shoulder creation from fellow Brit fashion legend Vivienne Westwood. The colour an appropriate choice for the star who plays the wild and inhibited Samantha Jones. Its loose fitting taffeta ruffles up top and sloping asymmetry gave the illusion that it was daring and on the verge of falling down, but really it was a discrete effort beyond its obvious and bold colouring. With none of the tasteless cut-aways which ruin so many otherwise classy red-carpet dresses.
Cynthia Nixon was the most daring in marked contrast to her more reserved and neurotic character on the show. Freed of Miranda's business casual attire she went for a black Calvin Klein effect with a dramatic front cutaway that left only two brave pleated straps to conceal her feminine pride. It was a brave choice which I'm relieved to report left her with little to regret. Ironically if Kim had worn something like that it might have seemed brazen or attention seeking. But it complimented Cynthia's soft strawberry blonde complexion nicely.
Kirsten Davis is held by many fans to be their favourite fashion hero with her timeless conservative style on the show a realistic parallel to Carrie's more eccentric and fanciful efforts. She also went red albeit a slightly softer shade than Kim, in a sleeveless dress cut below the knee and lightly pleated at the front. Perhaps in the least elaborate of the outfits Kirsten looked beautiful as ever but personally I think a little more boldness with her accessories and perhaps a different colouring (maybe a royal blue?) would have pushed her back up to her usual standards of excellence.
