Emaciated Basenji Story

1/5/09 Update: Leeny was released by her owner on New Years Eve Dec 31, 08 and place with Basenji Rescue and Transport http://www.basenjirescue.org/




These Basenjis were removed from the owner's home on Aug 18 2008. The owner refused to sign an release of ownership form and removed the dogs from foster care on Sept 14, 2008.

A Sad Basenji Story
Jack and Leeny 12 years old Basenjis.

We where loved and care for by our mom for many years
In 2008 Mom had financial, emotional and physical issues.
Mom had a mental melt down and thought it best to lock us in the basement for weeks at a time, living in our own feces. No food for days at a time. We nearly died in the basement. Mom told friends about us down there. Now we are in foster care looking for a new home. Can we live with you?
We were placed in foster care on Aug 18th 2008

I hope the friends who rescued them in the first place are keeping an eye on Jack. What a bittersweet story. Mental illness is so very tough.

:' - ( OH MY GOSH! How can anyone do that to a dog. I mean seriously. If you cant handle them or dont want them anymore FIND THEM A HOME, dont just lock them up and not feed them at all! Aww poor things! Reminds me how lucky I am to have a great Basenji like missy, she is 10yrs and how unfortunate some dogs are. Im glad to hear they were rescued. May no basenji, or dog, ever be treated that way again! My heart is with all abused and neglected dogs. And RIP for the ones that it was too late for

OMG this is so sad, it reminds me of my old dog, I found him in a box , all of his brothers and sisters mut have been adopted but I had no way to tell. He was a flea ridden mess but even in his pain and fear he was such a sweet heart that I kept him. Unfortunatly five years ago he died, and two years ago my mom sent me a Rat Terrier puppy, and lets just say he isn't the brightest star in the sky.

Thank you for saving these two basenjis. I hope they have a loving new home now. My dogs are my life and I just can't understand how anyone could treat their 'best friend' like this.
