@walsallcrew thanks for the reply....im gonna try to make a platform like that...im going to be getting 2 turtles that are abt 5" long from a teacher who doesnt want them in her class anymore...i have experience with water turtles but have had trouble in past finding a filter to keep up with their waste...do you think that 2180 in a 120 gallon aquarium with two 5 inch turtles would work? does that filter use a lot of electricity since it has a heater in it too? thx so much for any and all help!

nice setup...looks like you have a very healthy habitat for your turtle and your turtle looks like hes really happy...im interested to see how you attached the basking platform to the tank...i was wanting to make a similar one...did you just caulk it to the sides?

My nitrite rises a little when I have changed one. If you use the EHEIM substrat pro it lasts forever. Don't change that just clean it in some tank water every 3 months or so. After a year just swap a little of the substrate pro over. But do this slowly.

The 2180 is the biggest external that EHEIM make so you can go much bigger or buy two? But they are rated up to 1200 litres so one would be more than enough! It turns over 1,700 litres an hour. The filter is 25w and the heater is obviously 500w but not on all the time and heats the water really quick. I change my filter floss (white pad) every 6 weeks. But try and change a bit at a time you will be surprised how much good bacteria they hold! My nitrite rises a little when I have chang

Hiya thanks for the comments. Yes you need aquarium grade silicone the hardest bit is getting it at the correct level you want. As it obviously can't be moved once done. Then get four pieces of wood same required level!! Then put in place silicon the top and what you can of the bottom as the woods in the way. When set the top line will hold it in place so you can do the bottom. That's all you need to hold it in place. A solid platform!

"borrowed" lol. Side necks I wouldn't say are rare but not that common for sale in the shops in UK. You normally have to go to a breeder to get a side neck. And there not cheap. yellow bellys and maps are the most common in UK. With Musk turtle becoming popular now as well.

Yeah res have been banned for sale across Europe as they were being released into the wild and breeding like mad and destroying other wildlife. But the yellow belly slider has took over that job and I expect them to be banned at some stage. Anyway i would have thought side necks would have been more fun and unusual than a res?
