  • Yes. I read about it. Prior to infamous 1880 Milan Conference, many deaf people were highly educated and their English skills were high. Many also were prospective such as newspaper co owners, many great sculptors, etc. It was b/c most of the teachers for deaf were fluency in ASL and were deaf themselves. I think you'll like a book called "When the Mind Hears".

  • Yeah I need to read that one! Thanks for the recommendation! ;o)

  • My pleasure. I'm not sure I think you may need to read "The Mask of Benevolence" and/or "Journey Through the Deaf World" first. It'll help reader to understand about us better, before reading "When the Mind Hears", b/c it was written by Laurent Clerc, a famous deaf man.

  • except for that whole marrying your cousins thing...ha!
