Saw this movie when it was first released and I was seven. It was like all my boyhood dreams come to life but more amazing than I ever imagined. Star Wars had the same effect. As adults we're jaded. But when you see a childhood movie like this part of you remembers that for a little while when you were young you were transported to another world. It was scary and beautiful and it made more sense to you than the real world you actually lived in. And part of you never wanted to leave...

I distinctly remember more DRUMS. Maybe it's just me? I would put a tape recorder on a chair and record it from the TV.
My 8 year old mind was NEVER the same after seeing this movie....
BLACK RED AND GOLD are still my favorite colors b/c of this movie!

When I first saw Flash Gordon, I was 11 years old -- and even though I had to piss really, REALLY bad all throughout, I did NOT move. Only after that very last scene did I rush to the bathroom. That's how important it was.

This is brilliant! I love Flash Gordon so much!
I too saw it as a 7 year old at the cinema and I was obsessed by it for years to come :-)
The music, the visuals, the adventure. It's one film that represents the early 80's perfectly,
