PROTEST FULL VERSION protesters trapped Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbo

Dramatic footage showed the flustered PM losing her shoe as her security escort ran a gauntlet through about 200 protesters from The Lobby restaurant near Old Parliament House — where Gillard had been handing out medals to emergency services representatives — to her car waiting outside.

The group had trapped Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott inside the restaurant until dozens of extra police, including the riot squad, were called to the scene shortly after 2.30pm (AEDT).

Protesters had been taking part in an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the nearby Aboriginal Tent Embassy when they surrounded The Lobby restaurant and banged on the three glass sides, chanting "shame" and "racist".

The two leaders, protected by police and security officers, escaped out a side door after about 20 minutes.

Protesters chased their car down the road, banging on its roof and bonnet.

@AustralianEuropean I work for a living...I pay taxes and I'm Aboriginal. And there's plenty like me. The Indigenous population is just under half a million. Less than 2 per cent of the Australian population. Yes there are some unemployed Aboriginal people out there on Centrelink benefits, but it's peanuts compared to Centrelink benefits going to the overall Australian population. I would suggest I earn more money than you, judging by your poor grasp of grammar and poor spelling

Australia should be like the United States. Over here, once your "aboriginality" falls past 50%

you're then just another American without the ability to call yourself First American native.

Also.The American native's flag is not allowed to fly other than on their land.

As a visitor, Why do aborigines have to wear their red, black & yellow sweat shirts. Don't they know, that we know that they are part aboriginal just by looking at them.

It is confusing for a lot of them were whiter than me.

nice work guys, ambush protest, thats awsome, this is what democracy is all about, keeping them on there toes so they'll think twice before they try and pull the wool over our eyes. more protest this is what australia needs!!!

What a load this title is. I've seen more then one YT video that could be considered closer to the "full version". I strongly suggest views seek out the additional footage available on Youtube atm.

Jeeze.... why not just give them an official embassy, if they feel they need one, why not just let them? Is it such a bad thing for aborigines to have self representation. Any other nation on earth is allowed one and the Aborignes never signed a treaty so technecally they could claim embassies for ALL the remaining indiginous nations so is it so bad to have 1 that represents them all. The NZ government is so much better than the Aussie government in regards to the indigenous. & I'm Aussie
