  • Has someone tried live USB3 stick (or hdd) ?

Can the speed be compared to a static OS ?

    1.

First, create a folder on the USB drive, and name it "AllThatWasHereBefore[date] ..

    2.

Shift all files and folders (in other words, everything) hanging off the "root" of the USB drive into the just created "AllThatWasHereBefore[date]" folder.

    3.

Proceed from there as if it was a blank USB drive.

*To be extra safe, your friend can back up all he has on his 16GB USB drive onto a hard drive in case he loses everything on his USB drive.

  • I was going to do this but it turns out that i dont have enough ram on my computer. After all its just a littlle acer aspire one netbook.

  • @gotbletu

I'm not sure is entire OS loaded into ram, but as we know ram is by orders of magnitude faster than hd, and non-persistent live usb ubuntu runs pretty well.

The problem appears with persistent live sticks (those which memorize changes) and usb write speed.

So i expect usb3 sticks to run live ubuntu noticeable faster than usb2 ones, in persistent mode.

    Reports would be greatly appreciated.

  • Does the USB drive need to be blank for this? A friend of mine has a 16 GB size USB (or so he believes) and he has files stored on it. Would that create a problem?

  • @MysticWaterNite have u try it on other pc?

  • @gotbletu Yes, I already did that as I've explained earlier. I went into BIOs at start up and went to the Boot Options and changed it to my USB and disabled everything else. When I boot my CD I have to do the same thing but for my CD drive. But I just keep on getting this error message saying I don't have configuration files. What are those? It said it's suppose to be in the syslinux folder.

  • @MysticWaterNite make sure u set ur bios to boot from usb, of press the hotkey at bootup for menu, think is either F12 or delete key. If u got a very old pc then it might not have usb boot option. Some old computers cant handle the newer usb stick either
