@lokeycmos Thanks. I recently rebuilt it into a vertically standing version. The problem however is that without something to arc against, the sparks are significantly less bright, even in total darkness. Something to keep in mind when constructing a Marx generator with such small capacitors.

hey please answer what do the resistors and spark gaps do for this circuit? what makes it work better than just capacitors in parallel?

@jeffddow With a bunch of capacitors in parallel there would be no voltage multiplication. The resistors provide enough impedance to make it appear the capacitors are in series when the spark gap fires, thus you can charge capacitors in parallel and discharge them in series.
