  • Nice video--but I have a couple questions:

    1) You dipped your bottle in the water--how do you know you are not drinking contaminated water from around the lip because that isn't getting sterilized is it?

    2) Are the batteries easy to find? Are they expensive?

    3) Does sterilizing the water change the taste any?

    Thanks!

  • @Urbanwild1 I will just wipe off the lip of the container till it is dry. I have done that quite a few times with no issues at all. You can get rechargeable batteries that dont cost much, also if you reach the 8,000 treatment life of the uv light it can b replaced for 20 bucks plus shipping. I have found this to be cheaper in the long run compared to using a filter with the cost of replacing the filters. By using this method it did not change the taste of the water at all. Thanks for watching!

  • Great video John, I have a few questions- How long does it last (batteries/usage), are those CR123 3volts, and how long does it take to do 1 qrt? Thanks - Eli

  • @evankoeve Hey Eli! i read that the batteries will last for around 100 treatments. The UV light will last for 8,000 treatments, The batteries are CR123, Really decent batteries in my opinion. It took me about a minute and a half to purify a liter of water. A lot quicker than than other methods. The really cool thing about this Pen is you can hold the button down for 3 seconds and use it as a flash light. I will do a video on that later.

  • Hey John, great video demonstration. In your opinion, what is your preference for water purifying: filtration/chemical purifying/steri-pen?

  • @bscalzo130 I use a few methods. Boiling, Some chemical, and the steriPEN, I like the steriPEN simply because there are no chemicals. I will use the steriPEN with my chlor floc tablets to make sure the water is safe. Chlor floc I use just to pull sediment out of my water.

  • I wonder if the bushman uses a penispump in the bushes.

  • I think K.I.S.S and Sods law apply here. If it can go wrong then it will go wrong.

I would NEVER want to rely on this piece of kit. Perhaps it will be good as a secondary treatment after a decent filtration and in ideal conditions.

Bacteria and cysts are only a small fraction of the things you should worry about contaminating your water.

  • Isn't the UV-light dangerous if not using a UV-protected container?

I mean, what if I bring the steripen to the cabin and use it in a normal glas container?

  • @j341 Yes I was aware. I am going to be doing a video on lights and I am going to demonstrate that feature then. It will be after my streamlight video.

  • it always make me laugh at 0:09......but i thinking that you are the best survivalist out there....really.you should ask Jeff(cutlerylover)to give you a shout out

  • Geologists are saying that there is a huge METHANE gas bubble below the surface on the Gulf Of Mexico. They are saying that it might erupt and if it does it will kill millions of people. People will die from the methane. They will die from a tsunami that would sweep across Florida. Just google Gulf Coast Methane bubble.

This is scary shit. This is SHTF stuff. If this happens America will no longer be able to defending itself because it will set us back economically, politically, and ..

  • Great video. on another subject Im trying to find T shirts the same as you wear in the video may I ask where you buy them? Also are they multicam pants?

Would you say the steripen is just a good camping tool and not a survival tool due to the batteries?

  • John good job and keep it coming, was wondering if you can do a vid sometime on constructing a 'coal bed' for winter time sleeping? thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing John. Keep up the good work and be safe out there!

  • Great video! Quick question, How durable is it say if I were to take a spill on my mountain bike or even just drop it?
