So we are here at Checkpoint Charlie (Berlin). Twenty years ago there was a wall here. Unfortunately there's still another type of wall separating people. So my question this week is: how can we tear down this wall called "the clash of civilizations"?
Remembering when my boys went through a phase of not wanting to share certain toys. To force them to share, created power struggles. So I decided to honor their wish and see what would happen. Before guests came to play I asked if there was anything they did not want to share. The toys went up in the closet to stay until their playmates went home. Next time the boys brought fewer toys to the closet. Third time they chose to risk, and share all of the toys. Thankyou Paulo

The Wall. First, to see it is there and an encumberance. What melts ice? Warmth! Perhaps using Love, Empathy, Understanding and Compassion (it certainly helps me). Looking for the opportunities to build bridges (enjoying the winter Olympics at the moment), appreciating each other's musical or other talents, beauty, admiring the differences or agreeing to disagree on certain points.

there will always be walls; different shapes; different colors. I think that being separated from each other without having a material wall between us is even worse. It does not give you the excuse to be away from each other and justify the absence becomes impossible and hurtful. I wished there were only material walls to tear down; it would have been easier!!

"Different" doesn't mean "bad". Everything that exists is mutually complementary

I guess we should accept the fact of diversity, variety and difference. The whole world was created this way. Just look around. We don't have one kind of trees, we don't even have one kind of water... So I believe there can be no general pattern even for the way of life (especially for the way of life). What is good for one person is simply unbearable for another. After all, there aremore things that unite us, than separate. It can be only "us", not "us" and "them".

After living in germany for 20 years I can still see how this one "wall" still is standing, albeit symbolically. It seems that the subtle differences in people, steming from culture or family upbringing, creates a kind of fear of one another. Some of us are attracted to these differences and float through this wall, while others are afraid of the differences and keep the wall standing. It's somehow a kind of self protection I suppose.Always this fear of the unknown or whats different. Silly..
