Man, what's with the animosity? Ask most Laos or Thai people, and they'll say that Thailand and Laos are like brother/sister nations (the people who say otherwise are in the minority). The languages are different, just like British English and American English are different... perfectly understandable to either. In the past, there's been conflict in the region, just like any other, but the people don't dwell in the past. Don't spread misinformation, please.
