The Botanical garden the Jochum Hof in Tegelen (Venlo) has a long history. The oldest parts of the garden date from 1799, when the current location of the botanical garden was a capital mansion. In 1933 the enthusiastic Father Peter Jochum began a botanical garden to support the biology education at the monastery.
From all parts of the world missionaries brought plants and seeds to Steyl for the garden of Father Jochum. Several gardens date from these periods.
In later years, the garden was extended with a Mediterranean greenhouse, where these cacti show their beauty.
Thank you for sharing that with us. My father was born in Tegelen and migrated to Australia in 1954. Both he and I visited Tegelen just this October where we wondered the streets whilst he told stories of his past. Had I known of this cactus garden whilst we were there I would have made time to see it. Maybe next time.

Thank you for your comment. If the Jochum Hof is open when you visit Tegelen once again, you surely should visit it:-)

It was by chance that we visited this greenhouse with cacti. And we were lucky that so many of them were blooming at that time. I'm glad you liked the flowers.
Hugs Maria:-)
