JANUARY 2011
MONA LISA is so intense now that she has attracted wild howler males to the rescue center quinta.
she is now over 18 months old, and approaching mating age.
she's had 2 potential boyfriends in the last month.
first, SOLEDAD, a young handsome male, very tranquilo, no gold on his back yet.
then along came BUDDY, an older male, and he chased SOLEDAD out of the quinta canopy, without a fight.
BUDDY has been living in our canopy for several weeks now. he's older and has gold down both sides. perhaps he's an exiled alpha.
he has become VERY TAME in just a couple of weeks.
we can touch him now, and he comes down the tree trunks to take goodies from our hands.
so far, both howler males have been totally tranquilo with TARZAN.
when TARZAN is out on his romps in the quinta canopy, they are curious about each other, but make no attempt to approach or confront.
no mating yet with mona [ we think she's still 'jail bait', a minor] ,
but she & BUDDY have had close encounters up in the trees just in the past few days.
strictly vocal exchanges... they chirp to each other, and grunt & howl a bit back & forth.
when mona is in her habitat, BUDDY comes very near for further bonding.
mona spends her entire day trying to catch a peek of BUDDY.
MONA LISA IS IN LOVE !!!
