Some police decide that the law is an ass & that they had better take the law into their own hands to rid society of mean criminals that the lawyers & courts would excuse them for. Dirty Harry doesn't agree. I thought it was nice of that asian lady to say she'd buy him some beers & to keep it warm.

  • bullshit, fuck you!! BOOM

  • @SheriffTankStoner But there were probably a few more lurking about off-camera, A high-up drug kingpin like Guzman would have at least 5 more wherever he went. When Briggs said 'there was more where they came from' that suggests that eventually he would discard Davis, Astrachan and Grimes the same way he discarded McCoy and Sweet. Although it was never stated, Briggs was the one to call Palancio to say 'you're gonna be hit in a few minutes by hitmen dressed like cops'.

  • @10APC That's exactly why Briggs sent him, He knew he could kill 2 birds with one stone by hitting Guzman and getting rid of McCoy at the same time. Briggs later admits 'There isn't one person we killed who didn't get what was coming to them' Harry retorts 'Yes there was, Charlie McCoy' Briggs asks him 'What would you have done?' Harry says 'I would've upheld the law' which suggests that Harry would've arrested McCoy rather than what happened. We may have seen one bodyguard (continued)

  • @SheriffTankStoner The problem with that theory about McCoy is that sending in a man, unknown to the Cell (Davis and others) to assist them will only get that man killed. When McCoy enters the garage, he was relaxed, almost nonchalant, when he encountered Davis...it must be coincidence. Guzman had one armed bodyguard outside the flat, and something else..Davis later said to Harry that they "began with the criminals the people knew"...they must have killed Ricca instead of McCoy. Which one?

  • @10APC After seeing The Dead Pool (on Harry's desk there is a USMC coffee mug present) I guess it's safe to say that Harry was in the Marines and probably saw action in the Korean War, Another idea I had about McCoy being there was because Briggs didn't have enough faith in Davis to pull off the Guzman hit by himself (though we didn't see it in the movie, I would imagine a drug kingpin like Guzman would've armed bodyguards around his flat) and sent McCoy in as a back-up (unknown to Davis).

  • @SheriffTankStoner Sometimes you can read too much from something in a movie, as its life condensed down to two hours. Why exactly McCoy was in the garage was never made clear in the film..it could have been coincidence or someone ordered him there, but I believe the film plot points to the former, rather than the latter (cop killing adds considerable complications to matters). It was a mystery to me as to who killed Ricca, but I do agree with you that McCoy is a strong possibility.

  • @10APC Yeah, McCoy took the spill prior to entering the garage (witnessed by the DeGiorgio/Casale stakeout team). As to McCoy being there, if Briggs didn't send him then, I wonder what he was doing there in the first place. Earlier in the movie McCoy made a comment to Callahan that 'we should've put our 20 in the Marines'. Unless I'm reading into the statement more than I have a right to, it suggests that McCoy and maybe Callahan were in the Marines prior to joining the SFPD.

  • @SheriffTankStoner I don't think Briggs sent McCoy to the garage,as his death that way would cause more problems than solving.McCoy was on motorcycle patrol,if I remember correctly,he was nearly run down before the Guzman hit.I always thought that the McCoy character was there just to provide an initial 'suspect' for the audience, until Davis and Co were shown to be responsible. The thing is it still leaves the mystery of who killed Ricca, but I like your idea that McCoy done it.maybe on his own.

  • @10APC The more I think about it, Briggs may have sent McCoy to his death because Callahan was getting a little too close for comfort. This may have been the real reason why Briggs assigned Callahan to stakeout but was forced by Captain Avery and others to bring him back to Homicide. Briggs knew that Callahan and McCoy were close and one little indiscretion on McCoy's part would've cause the whole operation to come tumbling down.

  • @SheriffTankStoner Yeah....that's interesting. You're selling the idea to me. Now I want to watch the film again to try to pick out from the dialogue something that might indicate a 'command and control' link from McCoy to Briggs. Its entirely feasible that in a Cell, Davis would not know that McCoy was 'employed' by Briggs, therefore he carried out the SOP to remove the compromise. Yes...that would make sense!!! Thanks, next time I watch the film, I will look more closely at Briggs/McCoy.
