October 9, 1993 USWA wrestling.

Vince gives another great interview. This time he's promoting his retun to Memphis' Mid South Coliseum for the Lawler Savage match.

Following the interview - as a result of Vince McMahon's legal threats - Eddie Marlin strips Jerry Lawler of the Unified Title.

This turned out to be the final interview from Vince in the program with Lawler. A few weeks later Lawler ran into legal problems and parted company with the WWF. Vince did make at least one more appearence on USWA TV in 1995 urging Lawler to turn heel.

  • at this time, on HIS show, Vince was still a "Babyface" announcer.. you can see him working on that Mr. McMahon (heel) personna...who would've known that this promo was going to set the tone for all of the promoters to get in on storylines??... he may very well be something of a genius... or, we're fucking stupid......

  • Vince McMahon showing his true colors as early as 1993.

Vince Heel Run = the worstest era in professional wrestling, but birthed a good heel DURING that time. However theres only so much you can do with a arrogant jackass gimmick who owes the company.

  • good promo. They need to go back to this style.

  • i wish someone had some of the good old cheap commercials that alot of the tennessee wrestling promotions ran.. like bert prentice and stuff lol

I looked it up & found out that the Warner in Time Warner is Warner Communications, the parent company of Warner Brothers. So you're right. Time-Warner was too big of a conglomerate to be a decent owner of WCW. If a specific branch of its Warner Bros division would have owned it, then perhaps they would have realized what an asset they had on their hands. Wrestling was hot & they owned 1 of the biggest organizations at the time. That would be like Disney selling off Marvel Comics.

Oh. I knew that WCW was part of the AOL/Time Warner deal, but thought that the Warner in Time Warner was a different one than Warner Bros. Kind of like the company S.C. Johnson (which makes consumer products) is a different one than Johnson & Johnson (which is a pharmaceuticals-consumer products-medical supplies company). Because I always heard analysts referring to Time-Warner & Warner Bros non-interchangeably.

  • @anakincane Not sure if Freddie Blassie was promoting or booking during his career, otherwise your comment was right on the money.
