Because of the difficulty caused when trying to keep the attention of 30 children during a field trip, and making yourself heard when standing by main roads, I made this for my class of 11 year olds before embarking on their investigation of the local history. Having some prior knowledge of what they would see meant they were far more involved and interested when they got to Littleborough.

  • Hi Geoff, thanks so much for posting this. My great great great grandfather Isaac b. abt 1796 was a banksman in Littleborough. I'm visiting the town in Oct. this year 2010 and hope to see some of the things you pointed out.

  • i never thought lbro had so much history i now se it in a new light you should try to do some more i bet loads of good tails are just waiting to be told

  • i remember getting evacuated from Summit when the tunnel blew with the train in it.

  • I spent 3 years in the police force in Littleborough from 1952 to 55 when I left for Australia. The names of the police members in the time were Insp Hickson, Sgt Halhead ,Sgt Roocroft, PC's Isaac Taylor(killed in 1956) PC Liptrot, PC Tweddle, PC Schoefield, I was PC Kirk. I knew a family called Hollingworth who lived at 67 Todmorden Rd and used to take their daughter Barbara out. If anyone has any info re these people I would like to make contact
