A Brief History:
On June 28, 1969, police officers in Manhattan raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar on Christopher Street. The police attempted to arrest the entire bar, some 200 people, after patrons refused to submit to gender examinations; a riot quickly ensued.
The first gay rights parade took place on June 28 of the following year in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago, to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
On June 4, 1989, twenty years after the Stonewall riots, a gentle, loving and quiet soul was taken from us by AIDS. He was my brother and my best friend... and he is missed every minute of every day!
