If you cannot afford a philips with ambilight, I just started another alternative with the same effect on indiegogo.

@Shroomsterdam Look up Sylvania HaloLight from the 1950's... you will find a good read on why they think ambient lighting is a good idea.

Now why would you want it to light up like that all around the edge? Is this to hide the low static contrast ratio you get with digital displays?
