From http://www.sexybeijing.tv International Women's Day is this Saturday, March 8 so we're posting this video to celebrate two of the badass women we admire in Beijing's rock scene. Atom is the drummer for Hedgehog and Li Qing is the drummer for Carsick Cars and guitarist for Snapline (http://www.bingmasi.com/).

This video was shot by Rachel Dupuy and edited by Anneke Coppoolse.

Come to Yugong Yishan (http://www.yugongyishan.com/) this Saturday to celebrate International Women's Day and to see Carsick Cars and the premiere of this video on the big screen.

  • @zakuzen I think the point I was trying to make was that a very small percentage of Chinese people seem to support Chinese bands, and they only have an audience in the major cities. I'm not saying only certain groups of people are allowed to listen to certain genres. A lot of the most powerful music throughout the history of rock became powerful because it managed to represent a generation, and young people associated themselves with the sound. In China there is only a small minority.

  • @videochemist,you are obviously not a real music lover.music belongs to no class or whatever, music transcends race, gender, religion, language oh heck,if there are outer space aliens, they can enjoy them too! saying the chinese rock scene is imitating the west is bullshit, its like saying Oasis sounds like the Beatles! rock is a genre, but it doesn't mean the west owns this genre.chinese rockbands are merely putting their own special touch to a well known genre, nothing wrong with that!

  • Carsick Cars are playing in Brisbane on Nov 5 but without Li Qing and Li Weis. They are a great rhythm section, the primary reason I wanted to see this band.

    Maybe I wont go

  • I just adore Hedgehog!

  • @SirLudicrus Agreed. I'm also sure at least some of these people are basement-dwelling trolls who don't even connect the comments they write with their actual opinions, and instead just get their kicks from bringing other people down and seeing the anger they generate in response to what they say.

In fairness, the recording quality on one of the clips with Atom could have been better. But still, she is too awesome for recording quality to ruin the experience.

    I love this music.

  • Awesomness!

But it.s 2011, bowl cut hairstyles are out.

so far I have never been to China but I approach every country I visit with an open mind, you just don't get that much unbiased information on China in the west because it's obviously in our economic interest to view you as enemies. So please don't take my comment the wrong way sir or madam, I'm widely interested in asian cultures and know there's more to your place than Mao and Kung Pow Chicken ;) Peace

  • guys, honestly, i think most of you are over reacted about this "news" , you people just don't know China.

even some of you relate this to politic shits...i just want to say WTF and who really cares? your media gave you people a picture of 70s of China, reading your comments only make me feel funny.

  • @leftynick8 we Chinese almost forgot this word, why do you so care?

  • @Cyrillion though we can't visit youtube, a woman band is really NOT a big deal in China. Rebels? that's funny. it's not the 60s, i hope you'll learn this in Shanghai. "autocratic rule of China?", only apply for Internet stuff, however, everyone in China who want to visit a banned site knows how to use a proxy.
