Louisville Leopard Percussionists in New York City

The Louisville Leopard Percussionists perform at the International Association of Jazz Educators' concert in January 2006, opening for Chick Corea, Eddie Gomez & Jack DeJohnette.

This handheld camcorder footage was shot by a generous Leopard parent while HBO was on stage shooting their footage for the documentary "Leopards Take Manhattan" which aired January 2008.

The Louisville Leopard Percussionists are a performing ensemble of approximately 45 student musicians, ages 7-11, living in and around Louisville, Kentucky. Each student learns and acquires proficiency on several instruments, such as marimbas, xylophone, vibraphone, drum set, timbales, congas, bongos and piano.

they are fantastic, I have been playing percussion for many years and I have never seen anything like this, they are a great young percussion ensemble and they actually sound better than quite a few high school ensembles. I hope your daughter continues to grow as a percussionist and a musician and hopefully one day be the star of her high school percussion ensemble and or drumline

I caught the enjoyable HBO special, and these kids are indeed remarkable! Kudos to their teacher as well, as she was able to get their talents to really shine through! Good luck to all in future endeavors!

This actually catches the audience reaction better than the HBO special did. I wasn't sure if they were awed as I was watching at home. I thought it was odd that they didn't focus any attention on the amazement of the musicians in the audience. I wanted to see their faces so I could be sure they were as drop jawed as the rest of us. We may not be able to see the audience, but we can certainly hear them. Thank you.

fantastic, these kids will be great high school players, being the leaders of their school drumlines, percussion ensembles and jazz ensembles, it is great to see them getting exposed to such great music and to see them performing at a very high level
