Russian figure skater Evgeny Plushenko failed to defend his Turin gold in the men's singles taking silver behind American Evan Lysacek. But Lysacek's victory has already sparked a wave of criticism. Speaking after the event, Plushenko, who performed a unique combination of quadruple and triple jumps, appeared to say that his skating performance in Vancouver deserved to be awarded with gold.

  • Two of the judge gave higher mark to Chan than to Plushenko. Which is definitely insane because Chan failed to do two jumps at the Olympics and Plushenko made all of it... including Quad. I hate Vancouver Olympics. But LOVE YOU PLUSHENKO!!! you're our forever emperor of figure skating!!!

  • The skating has lost much of its credibility because of these injustices in order to favor the Americans, unfortunately occurs and it is a shame, we know that Evgeni is a god of skating, it does not matter who was the champion Evgeni he will always be the best

  • @macerface ijust send to you:

  • @jaog1970 to favor the americans???? are you watching the same one? cause im pretty sure that canadian, not u.s., skaters are the ones who whined their way onto the medal stand in 06. and as far as him bein the best, he may have been, just not on that night. all it takes is one performance.

  • @macerface, watch Plushenko winning his 7th European title, do you really think that YOU understand more than him about anything related with skating?

You can agree with the judges giving Evan the gold, but you can't say Plushenko is not able to understand something about skating or scores. He is a true champion and so far his career is full of gold medals already, more than anybody else. If anybody has authority over this issue is Plushenko, no one like him

  • @7renabena plushenko didn't win becouse his SHORT PROGRAME was underscored. A lot.

  • @7renabena True enough. But if you put to much emphasis on the level of execution you slow down the technical evolution of the sport.Everyone'll go for safe and riskfree (and not to exciting) performances like Evan did. It should mean that they improve artisticly, but honestly I dont see that happening. Programs become boring since Yags/Plushy's time. I would not be the one to decide who should have won though. But I definitely dont like where fs is going nowadays.

  • also, in my opinion i don't like the change to the scoring system after this...just because you execute a quad doesn't mean you should win, what about the rest of the program? they just need to score FAIRLY on what the skater actually executes, and if they have beautiful triples, they need to reward that.

  • i don't think he understands that skating isn't scored how it was 20 years ago. it's not all jumps like he seems to think, PCS is awarded much more now, as it should be, hence the reason evan won. it doesn't matter if he lost or not, he was very rude about it and cocky, especially the part where he stepped on the top of the podium said he "forgot he didn't win".
