Almost all of Canada's 26 million egg-laying (battery) hens are kept in the most appalling conditions imaginable. They are crammed so tightly into small wire cages that their feathers chafe off. Feces from hens above cover the hens on lower levels. And this is standard for the industry... This farm is owned by Dr. Loyd Weber, a veterinarian, who was a member of the dean's veterinary advisory council at the University of Guelph at the time of filming.

  • Its aboot time to save those chickens eh?

  • @robert123447 Sorry, robert, but the truth is that 99% of the egg industry does work exactly as shown in the video. It is not just a "bad apple".

  • Please do not say that all people in the Canadian egg industry are 'animal torturers.' I have grown up on an egg farm my whole life, and I hope to someday manage that farm. I will admit that this farm is a disgrace, this farmer should not be raising chickens. But if you were to come into our barn you would see a whole different picture. It is very unfortunate that this one farm, this one bad apple, has tainted all of the egg industry.

  • the only way to ensure the eggs you guy are NOT from conditions like this are to either raise them yourself or buy them from a farmer who will show you how his chickens are raised. Don't even trust labels on egg cartons as they are misleading as well.

  • Does anyone know the current condition of this facility? Has anything changed? This was screened and discussed at a very recent event so I suspect they have not.

I am devoted to some day opening a farm sanctuary. I promise.

  • lol 2 years later and this still gets my tummy rumbling! Nyum Nyum Nyum :D

  • @huttet1 They've visited many, many egg farms. They're all the same.

    Go vegan!

  • Why can't people see chickens as the living things they really are?

  • It's SO SAD that nearly all hens raised for egg-laying are kept like this hellish warehouse. He's no farmer, he's an animal torturer as are most people in the Canadian egg industry.

Hens are ground up alive in Manitoba, and millions of male chicks are ground up alive every year in Canada. The egg industry is totally heartless. And now they're "sponsoring" spelling bees to try to clean up their ugly image and hook kids on a lifetime of egg eating. Poor spelling kids are getting used!

  • When are these people posting comments going to realize you can't paint all farmers with the same brush? Just like you can't say all Canadians are murderers just because there is one murderer in jail. You will always find a bad apple in a bunch. I wish the people that post these videos showed content from more then one farm and you will get a lot better picture of farming in general.
