  • Jimihendrixtribute seems to opine without any practical experience. So here is a comment from someone who replaced his Honda Civic Hybrid with the VW Golf TDI: driving the between 60 and 65 on the freeway this car HANDS DOWN beats the Civic. And the Civic is equal to the Prius on the highway.

I, at best, would get 49mpg freeway in the SUMMER with my Honda. In the winter this would drop to 45mpg. With the TDI I get 53mpg in the summer and 49 in the winter.

  • @jimihendrixtribute Chevy volt is a good car but it cost more than 40k. Prius starts at 22k and prius plug in suppose to start under 30k. Prius plug in is expected to get higher mileage than volt. Chevy also has credibilty issues when it comes to quality. You can find prius cabs with over 400k still using original brake pads, hybrid battery, engine and tranny. Chevy has made so many crappy cars that people are scared to buy a chevy EV.

  • @gwalia4 Yeah I think Chevy has the right idea for their battery powered car. The gasoline motor to charge the batteries is better than having to plug your car in once a week. No matter what people do, petroleum fuel won't disappear until we run out of oil.. I don't see that happening any time soon.

  • @jimihendrixtribute Yes battery plays a big role. Half the time in traffic my engine is off. Once i get of the freeway and get into my neighbourhood engine is off. Honda and ford also have battery. It is toyota synergy drive system with the battery that has greatest mileage. Chevy Volt drivers can go months before they go to a gas station. Toyota has bought a huge share in tesla to keep prius on top. Diesels just don't sell in america. All tdi cars added cannot touch prius sales in usa

  • @gwalia4 he lives in a rural area and he drives on the highway everywhere he goes.. and to be honest, the whole mileage between the prius and tdi isn't comparing apples to apples. If the Prius didn't have the battery power, it wouldn't get great gas mileage in stop and go traffic either..

  • @mbolzicco Well try a six speed honda civic. Put in Mobil 1 like vw requires and you will outlast any vw. You will get 40mpg, save 8 to 9 grand, & have all kind of fun. Cost per mile is almost same as tdi with no cluck cluck. Plus what is the point of getting higher mpg if fuel cost more.

  • @jimihendrixtribute Your grandfather also buys higher priced diesel. Try to calculate per mile cost. Diesel might work for your grandpa if he is retired and does not have to go to work in the morning. Prius will give 45mpg to 50mpg city traffic( gen2 or gen3). NY cabies are converting to prius because they can get over 50mpg in NY city traffic. TDI will not even get 20mpg in ny city stop and go traffic. I hope you get to ride a gen 2 or 3. Most people who hate prius have never driven one

  • @gwalia4 my grandfather owns a volkswagen tdi beetle and he gets over 55+mpg.. you save more money than you would on 45mpg in a fricking prius..

  • Good guys at Steve White VW. Was just in there yesterday. Pretty pleased as punch. Looking to pick up either a JSW or Golf (both TDI) in a month or so. Hard to beat ze Germans.

  • @gwalia4

The sound of Rolls Royce's engine is music, not some cluck cluck of any car engine.
