This is raw footage of the steam excursion on the Byesville Scenic Railway in Byesville, OH. This was filmed October 22, 2006. This was ... all » the first time the steam whistle was heard in Byesville in 50 years and hopefully won't be the last. The steam locomotive was provided by the Ohio Central Railroad. If you recognize it, it is the same locomotive (#1293) that ran in Amish Country (Sugarcreek, OH) for many years.

Visit BSRW.ORG to see more about the railroad and you can see when the next trip will be. You'll learn about some of the history of Southeastern Ohio. The focus it the deep coal mines that brought many people to this area 100 years ago. If you are from here, chances are your great grandpa was a coal miner in one of these mines.

Thanks for watching.

  • POLLUTION !!!!

  • Smoke 'em if you got 'em. Fossil Fuels RULE!

  • When they run out, locomotives can go back to burning wood.

  • Corn Alcohol! Electric even. Trains are the most fuel efficient/cost effective way to move product from here to there. They keep America supplied! It would take 100 semi trucks to do what one train can do.

  • @DanielVolker we will not destroy our feul sources by burning biofeul. Dang how many times do people have to be told that?

  • That is VERY TRUE!!! If we can find a fuel source that doesn't pollute as much and with out destroying our food sources, we're set! Steam will never die!!

  • the solar panel needed to run one train would probably be larger than the train cargo.

  • Might sound crazy, but how about running them on solar power?

  • Most of that stuff coming out of the stack is just exhausted steam. And trains are the most fuel efficiant method of transportation anyway.

  • time to do a little repeat session in June and October... :)

  • That whistle sounds awesome!

  • 1293 rules.
