VIDEO #7
COMMENTS or ADVICE on how to get better are appreciated.

This is video #7 in my Guitar Progress Journal. I am seeing some progress I am beginning to intuitively move around the neck a little bit more. Ive got a long way to go.

Parliament Funkadelic lead guitarist Eddie Hazel is best known for his legendary work on MAGGOT BRAIN. Eddie Hazel (4/10/1950 - 12/23/1992) born in Brooklyn NY raised in New Jersey was very influential in "bringing the funk" to the masses.

I attempt to cover this classic, but I always get lost in this tune. I dont know the entire piece note for note, so I end up just playing over the backing track. Hope you enjoy.

Here is the link for the backing track.

  • I'm no musician, but I know good music when I hear it. This is good music. Funk on. By the way, don't worry about the song being exact. No good cover of a song should be exact, it's your interpretation and it happens to rock.

  • @StormSong8 Thanks I appreciate the feedback!

  • good job man, really nice, the only thing i'd say is with some of those earlier bends, if you listen to the track, he bends up but doesn't release the bend (as in bring the bend back down - he just mutes it), i'm only constructively criticising here i'm not trying to put you down cause otherwise it was a good cover, well played !

  • @drdreday123 Yes, I have since learned how to do that, I havent mastered it, but I agree. I noticed it immediately and tried to focus on hitting the right note at the top of the bend, its hard to mute the "coming back down" of the bend. Thanks and I am alway looking for critique, I appreciate your honest feedback. Thanks... peace

  • Eddie hazel with maggot brain embodied the essence of what music is.

    a Simple background

    a Simple scale impro

a easy playing (with technical parts just when necessary)

a lot of soul and inspiration.

That's why I think this is the best song to start improvising, it's not hard to have fun and the marge of progression is infinity.

Congratulations. I post the same vid for the same reasons!

  • Hey Thanks for watching.

I like your video too, great vibe. peace

  • I think you did a hell of a job! This is one of those songs that any artist can place his own touch on it and it will still be recognized! Relax and play from the heart just thnk about the saddest shit you ever witnessed or heard of and dwell on it then let it come out of your fingers!

  • yo bro thats some righteous tone & sutstain... Maggot Brain took me to kansas and over yonder like many cats it spoke to me... I might try and learn it 1 of these days...amen
