  • what body kit is that? why the v8? the subie is a better conversion. Its hundreds more reliable and its lighter. so with a few mods, its WAY lighter and its 450 rwhp, instead of a chevy heavy lose the trunk conversion, go with the ol reliable asian light keep the sound/ engine layout conversion.

  • The body kit is totally handbuilt custom. Must be a Subie fanboi because nobody in their right mind would think a Subaru engine is a better conversion than an SBC. The SBC isn't as heavy as you might think, and is boatloads more power and fun to drive than anything out of Japan.

  • I love it when people get all worked up for no reason: these are opinions people. I am not sure about the exact weight of the subaru conversion. But I just converted my '73 to a 2.7l flat six from a 911s (with webers). The total weight ended up being within 75# of what I would have expected with a SBC w/ aluminum heads. I'm sure there are some sweet subie 914's out there, but there are a lot of very well sorted, well balanced, light, FAST sbc conversions and have been for a long time.

  • @accordv6er Even instead of a Chevy LS6, he could have used a 928's V8 and probably wouldn't need an adapter plate or anything.

  • Besides all the obvious positive comments, this set-up also sounds really sweet.

  • @voodooturbo You must be out of YOUR right mind saying that "nobody in their right mind would think a Subaru engine" ... looks like *you're* the fanboy. Certainly a SBC has it's pros and cons vs a turbo flat 4. The weight in said such engine is very low in the chassis compared to a V8. We can go on and on but considering your such a hypocrite it wouldn't be a friendly debate with you ... just an argument.

  • LS engines since 1996 have had the most power to weight and size ratio then any other naturally aspirated production engine...

  • @accordv6er

If you're insinuating that Subaru engines are more reliable than the GM LS - series engines than you don't know much about engines. And no LS engines aren't heavy at all. However I do agree with you that the Subaru swap would've been better.

  • performance potential is probably more or less equal twixt the subie and sbc but the subie is lighter and the weight is lower. I used to own a 914 with an sbc but I would not do it that way again. too much weight. you can lose weight in other categories but that would be even more weight if you had a scoob.

  • @voodooturbo agreed... makes me laugh how most people that bash them dont know anything about them...

  • @accordv6er

Dude, that SBC probably gives the car and overall better weight-balance, and has WAY more potential for high horsepower.
