Here is a short video on how I put simple cases together. It is by no means an all inclusive book making tutorial as I'm assuming that the viewer is already familiar with creating the book block and covering the case with material.

In order for the book to open flat, the spine must be able to flex inward to a concave shape, while the cover would remain either flat or convex. Do not glue the spine to the case.

I loved this, and it has inspired me to try a hardcover book, rather than my usual soft ones. However, if I can ask a question? It seems that you only glue the end papers to the covers, and not the spine? Why is this, and does it matter if the spine is glued (for extra bonding!) Thanks :)

You have a nice voice and style for this - I hope you do more. Why not go back and show how to prepare the text block and the case? I'm a newbie and find these videos to be real helpful. Thanks very much for sharing.

When you sat PVA adhesive, do you mean plain old Woodwork glue? Such as Evostik (Elmer's?) .
Thank you for this video. I can now put one of my favourite old books into a new cover.

@MiCompre - I'm glad the video is helpful. I wouldn't use wood glue as it can get brittle. Regular Elmer's glue is OK but if you can get to a craft store Sobo glue or any similar glue is better. Sobo will remain flexible after it dries. Bookbinder's glues are called PVA and come in different brands both here and in the UK.
