well syd was before gilmour. they used to be friends and basically syd got thrown out because he couldnt take being in the band anymore honestly. he would tear up the stage. but whys he great? well his words are a lot more interesting in my opinion.

You are right, except that we lost that great mind well before his physical death. He became lost in the woods at some point in that distant year of 1967.
