This is my talent portion of last years Mu Phi Epsilon Music Man Pageant. Each of us had to wear dresses, answer questions, perform and talent, and really just act like crazies.

This is my own "comical" rendition of Pachelbel's Cannon in D. At that time I had been listening to alot of the Youngblood Brass Band and I really dug the tuba in the group. He did super cool stuff with multiphonics (singing while playing). I started goofing around with it during marching season (hence the sousaphone...plus its just funnier). After watching the Pachelbel rant I got the idea for this arrangement.

If ya can't hear all that well heres some info
1st Time - The cannon theme (in Bb)
2nd Time - Singing unison
3rd Time - Singing harmony
4th Time - A little falsetto action

Final two times through the cannon theme I play the simple theme while singing the more intricate and flashy part.

Then the ending I just tacked on. Enjoy!

  • its easier to start with the falsetto stuff. I just figured out I could do this by messing around while walking out to the practice field. I then heard some Youngblood Brass Band and there tuba player does a bit a multi phonics. Thats when I really got into it. I mean if you practice anything enough you can do it man. Thanks for the props peeps!!

ps - Check out youngblood brass band. Their older stuff is more jazz influenced while the current stuff is kind of hip hop-y .... i like the old stuff
