This episode of Victory at Sea explores the battles between the Allies and Germans near the Arctic Circle, and the convoys battling past German-occupied Norway to Russia. Meanwhile, the Japanese invade Alaska unsuccessfully, and the U.S. Navy again is ordered to guard this vital area amidst the bad climate and vast vistas.
If the Germans had discovered skip bombing of the Murmansk convoys like the US B-25's in the Bismarck Sea over the Jap troop convoys: no ship would survive: that shipping would have been cut off until the USA Jeep Carriers on line in 1943 could operate to clear enemy arcrft. Even then German "night fighter" using skp bmbng would have negated carriers sunk without air to guard ships at night and striped later cnvys of air defense denying the svts their support from the US at this time.
