@BigBlueSpaceGoat So it's completely unexpected that an actor would play a role of a doctor? well then that must mean that Fry playing a doctor is ironic, doesn't it? or a better example, if a child visits a doctor when younger then becomes a doctor is that irony? I don't understand what's unexpected of an actor acting.

@iirtehbr Pretty sure it means means the opposite of what is expected. For example, it used to be ironic that Catholic priests feel up little boys, because they are supposed to be the moral shepards of dozens if not hundreds of people.

@madra1997 I think it's more of dramatic irony than situational...

i saw this online a week ago, and just today someone posted it on my facebook.... how ironic.

Your comment doesn't fit under the definition of irony that you posted. And no that's not ironic either.

We know that he will go on to be Dr. House, but at the time he did not.
Situational irony.

If you don't know "oh the irony" is used to describe an amusing self-contradicting occurrence - you don't need to be smug about it.
@BigBlueSpaceGoat
If you're referring to how Laurie went on to play Dr House, then no, it's not irony. The definition of irony is not "any amusing coincidence".

@iirtehbr Situational Irony: n, irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected.
