Abstract :
Educators have observed an increase leisure-time use of immersive music game simulations like Guitar Hero and Rock Band by students. Concurrently educational designers have created computer based interactive music instructional such as smart music. Teachers are increasingly incorporating more music technology into the music classroom. It appears that the integration of music-simulation games have not been widely integrated into the music curriculum. These games are often viewed as purely recreational in nature. In this project the researcher will fully integrate the use of the Guitar Hero Game with Instrumental and vocal pedagogy. The content and experience in this activity will be designed to align with the national standards of the arts in the area of music. Learning and assessment will be the focus of this project. It is the researchers opinion that through the use of gaming strategies and motivation mash-up with instrumental and vocal curriculum there will be a significant benefit to music educators and serve as a model for school music programs.
