@DavieMcPhail Oh yep cheers, I come from NewZealand, and If we tied that fly we would put a bit of lead on, or if we wanted it to get down, we use beads.
Cheers,
Tight lines.

Hi Davie, great tie, we have good success using the Diawl Bach with a red bead head for mullet.
Cheers

I use a colored marker on holographic pearlescent tinsel and hit it with bug bond or a coat of head cement or nail polish - fish don't seem to mind. Love your techniques. I've tied over 40 years and learn lots watching your videos.

Hi leothomasful,
The Diawl-Bach is fished in the lochs and lakes here in the U.K and mostly used in fishing competitions where weight is not allowed. But it doesn't need it if you want it deeper then you change to a sinking line to get it down but if I was fishing it on a river then adding weight would make it fish well....

Hi Davie
Thank you for the fly. I copied it for a recent fishing trip in South Africa but I added a red glass bead to the head. It was the most successful fly for the weekend on both Trout and Bass.

This is very useful style of nymph that I have had a lot of success with. The one comment I would make is that I add a little weight to the thorax. This is primarily to improve the attitude of the fly in the water since it is a 'swimming' pattern. The weight distribution of the hook makes the unweighted version arse-heavy, leading to an unnatural presentation when retrieved.

Hi flyhead2,
I'm glad this pattern has done well for you, unfortunately in competition fly fishing on the lakes and lochs of the U.K international rules don't allow you to add weight to your pattern like in this fly, but to be honest this is a top class pattern in competitions tyed in many colours.
All the best Davie
