Golden Retriever and Dachshund Mix Rolling in the Grass

Or goldidachs, as we call her. Here she is rolling in the grass and then following a scent trail. People always tell us they hope the dachshund was the father! ;) The mix seems to have resulted in the sweet friendliness of a golden retriever plus the spunk, cuddliness, and sausage build of a dachshund. She's like a long, tiny golden who's easier to manage on walks. She weighs about 25 or 30 pounds and is 8 years old right now. She can sit in a circle of children and be so calm even when they're squealing and leaping all over her; she just licks their faces and makes them laugh, but she's also one tough cookie. She defended herself the one time a dog attacked her, stopped the moment the other dog was under control, and wasn't nervous around other dogs afterward. She gets along very well with the beagle we added to the family. She also killed a nest of moles in our backyard before we knew what happened--very much a dachshund instinct, that! Never expected it since she hasn't attacked the neighbors' cats, or my mice when I had them. I think they should make this into a breed. Only drawbacks are a bit of doxie stubbornness and watchdog tendencies to bark out the window, as well as the classic golden retriever double-coat which requires a lot of vacuuming, but if you like the other qualities it's no real trouble. Yeah, you can tell I'm stupid over her. *sheepish smile*

Hi there! This is a lovely video. I've just adopted a one year old rescue and I think she might well be a "goldidachs". Her behaviour sounds very similar - she's also obsessed with water. She's a similar shape though her coat is darker (more of a dachshund colour) and unfortunately some cretin docked her tail. She's settling in great and already she and my Stafford are inseparable, though they do look quite funny trotting along together. Thanks a lot for posting.

I have a golden doxie mix too. He looks exactly like your dog and has the same personality minus the stubborness and barking. Like yours, mine can sit calmly in a group of children. I am a preschool teacher and I take him to my class. He is 100% trustworthy.
