"Heart In Motion" was Salvation Sunday's second single for Polydor. Music producer was Ed Stasium (Ramones, Julian Cope), the promo video was shot in Feb. 1987 in a film studio in Middlesex, UK on 16mm film, much of it using "stop-frame animation" which basically meant each 1/24 second was shot like a still frame on a normal camera - like "Wallis and Gromit" except with real people - it took all day! This technique was, and still is, very unusual for a pop video due to it's complexity. It was directed by Nick Brandt (Michael Jackson - Earth song, Stranger in Moscow etc).

Vocals - Joanne Winterbottom
Song, Guitar & B/V's - Stephen Winterbottom
Lead Guitar & B/V's - Marvin Naylor
Keyboards - Mingo (Robert Talbot)
Bass Guitar - Martyn Baker
Drums & Percussion - David Rowley

  • Thanks for posting this video.

I was amazed to find it, and was a fan all those years ago.

Do you know if there was a video for "Cold Grey Eyes?"

  • There never was one for "Cold Grey Eyes". Polydor only paid for this one (the second single). Some of the band's mp3's will be available soon however, on a myspace website that David (the drummer) is writing. Glad you liked it!

  • Wow. These are my favourite band that no one else I know has ever heard of. I used to have a 7 inch copy of "Come to your senses" till someone stole my singles collection. I think "Witness" is the best song they ever recorded. Is there a viseo of it available anywhere. If someone could even upload just the music, I'd love to hear it again.

  • I remember you two. I'm pleased you got home allright.

  • What a blast from the past. I was suspended from school for 'running away' to Leeds to see Salvation Sunday play again after seeing them support Curiosity Killed The Cat in Liverpool.

They took pity on us, gave us passes to see them and we had a top time but we ended up in a Police station at the end of the night as we were only 15. Great memories and it was worth the wrath of our parents.

Come to your senses and Cold grey eyes are great tracks. Still have the 12 inches in my record collection.

  • They did one for a song called Come To Your Senses, which missed the top 40 by a long shot. C'est la vie.

  • They were what Texas could have been ... if they weren't shite. I saw them many times, hitching around our glorious isle in the strange daze of the late 80s.

  • I'll never forget that band, was the one and only double 45 rpm album I ever see , great voice and music... thanks for loading it

  • did they do another video when the legendary jonny 'fingers' bent joined the band? i think the single just missed the top 40. or did i just make that up?

  • I'm so glad that a Salvation Sunday song has been uploaded. I've been looking for Come to your Senses & Cold Grey Eyes on here for years!

  • i was in the crowd in that vid! steve and jo winterbottom asked a few of my mates and me if we'd like to be in a music vid.....we were pissed i think cos it was me b'day!

  • Be proud of your dad - the band made some wonderful music that gave me and my mates some great nights watching - listening and drinking in days gone by!
