För att vara ifrån utlandet så tycker jag att du pratar oerhört bra, i synnerhet eftersom svenska är ett sådant svårt språk!
-
哦!
你说的普通话话真流利呀!
可是我怎么觉得你的广东话得大放一点儿。

I am a native German speaker (actually I grew up bilingual but anyway...) and I find it quite easy to understand Dutch. As with Swedish... I understand only the odd word here and there.
Usually most Dutch people speak German and English as well, so there are no communication problems.^^
Steve, I really love listening to you.^^ Thank you so much.

Jag håller helt med dig Steve om hur man ska lära sig ett nytt språk, och jag tycker du talar svenska mycket bra :) Lite små fel här å där men svenska är ett mycket svårt språk att lära sig, och jag tycker du hade en bra accent när du prata.

To answer your'e question, no a german and a swede wouldn't understand much from each other if they both spoke thier own languages. Not so sure about the dutch but I hardley think they would undertsand swedish.

To anwser lonewolf604 question:
I don't think a german person would understand a swedish person that well, while there are a lot of similar words and even some words that are the same, like "kallt" for instance (Cold), the accents are so different that you wouldn't notice the similarities. For me, who's a native swedish speaker, I find dutch easier to understand then german.

You are an inspiration to us all indeed. I speak eight languages (made a video on youtube too), and I think you speak them all very well. You're the most gifted person I've found on the internet so far.Congratulations!

can someone who speaks german understand a swedish/dutch person, and vice versa?
I think it's really amazing how driven you are with learning languages. You really are an inspiration to me- a girl who loves languages but at the same time feels so nervous when trying to speak in other languages. I just joined Lingq and I love it. Please, can you tell us about what led you to study language? Thanks!

Paige,
I notice you joined and are very active, saving lots of words. Great! You need to listen often to your favourite content, even if difficult at first.
With me it was just circumstances. I got keen on French at 17. Then I studied in France and hitchhiked around and realized how great it was when you speak the language. After studying Chinese I realized that there is no unlearnable language. And I learned how to learn.Shyness is no obstacle. Just learn to love the language and it is yours.
