Henry David Thoreau (12 July 1817 -- 6 May 1862) born David Henry Thoreau was an American author, naturalist, transcendentalist, tax resister, development critic, philosopher, and abolitionist who is best known for Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay, Civil Disobedience, an argument for individual resistance to civil government in moral opposition to an unjust state.

  • @definemaybe What does capitalism have to do his philosophy? He's not unwilling to pay/trade for items or services received; he's unwilling to pay the tax on those items to support a government he disagrees with. Capitalism is about private profit and private loss - investing money in return for a product; a product who's value is decided by society or a single person.

    And if you want to find out more about capitalism, try researching an Austrian economist.
