I own 2 and they are lovely dogs, if trained and owned by responsible humans. I will never own any other breed.

@ahahahayeahright - Cougars? Avoid areas with higher cougar densities where too many cougars are competing for too few deer, like Marin and surrounding counties. Bears? Cook/eat/clean-dishes well away from, and down wind of, your campsite. Keep packed food in scent-proof containers. Dogs? A Ridgeback might fit the bill, but have you considered a Dogo Argentino?
