This is, of course, a snapshot of Colin's playing. He's spent countless hours shedding and perfecting extended techniques like tongue slapping, circular breathing, and multiphonics. That being said, his playing can range from emotionally charged and romantic to edgy and simply rockin. I've seen him switch between bari, clarinet, alto and tenor saxes. Amazing musician, and fun to play with.
Word.

How not to be suckessful doing all the things your teacher told you not to do. I like it mostly.

this grooves even better live than on the album (which also rocks)

To my knowledge the first real heir to the legacy of Kirk.

Holy fuck! I was at that show. It was free! If you weren't there you may as well kill yourself now.

this is sick ... if anyone is from the ny area --- erik is playing with colin stetson next friday, 6/5 at the abrons arts center at 730
i think that's a worthless discussion. extended techniques are part of nowadays sax playing, like everything else. and remember he's playing with a rock band in front of a rock audience. so i think it's very nice what he's doing here for these guys.
besides, why should extended techniques not be beautiful?! and it's always a difference if you just use them as a gimmick, or as a controlled technique. and this guy has really checked out the limits of the instrument.
