Charukeshi Varnam

Karpahavalli was established in 2007 to help promote the beautiful art of Carnatic Classical Music in Sydney. Our aim is to promote Carnatic Music by working with some of the best young talents in Sydney. We host an annual music event under the name 'Karpahavalli' where all the proceeds would be given to charity. We also take part in other cultual events as part of our ongoing committment to ensure that Carnatic Music is entrenched in the hearts of Sydney Audiences!

This clip comes from our second annual programme, 'Karpahavalli 2008'. This is a redition of the Charukeshi Pada Varnam of Violin Legend, Sri Lalgudi G Jayaraman, which is preceeded by the 'Pallandu Pallandu' pasuram of Sri Periyalwar as a Virutham. Simply amazing! I did this varnam for my Barathnatyam Arengetram recently and it was a joy to perform to simply because the lyrics have a tendency to carry you to another world as you get lost into the song. I came to a very important realization that day, "the composer's of such songs are not ordinary souls like you or me if they have the power to carry you to another world just by their lyrical or singing ability". Of course you have to be careful in who you listen to but at the same time...:)
