James Douglas Morrison (Jim Morrison) (8th December, 1943 -- 3rd July, 1971) was an American singer, poet, songwriter, writer, and film director. He is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of The Doors, and is widely considered to be one of the most charismatic and influential frontmen in rock music history.[1] He was also the author of several books of poetry,[1] and the director of a documentary and short film.
