sinhalese came from Sinhapura (Sanskrit meaning Lion City) the capital of a kingdom in Kalinga, modern Orissa in India. (correction not Bihar)

Tamils came from southern tamil nadu.

But both the ethnicities in the Island of Sri Lanka have been isolated for so long that new words, new accents, new traditions and new cultures have evolved.

So if you are saying tamils from North-East should go back to Tamil Nadu, then the sinhalese should pack their bags and head back too!
