† Dan Wheldon Tribute - {1978 - 2011} †

Earlier today, motor racing not only lost a great driver, but a friend, a teammate, a husband and a father. Dan Wheldon was killed in a horrific 15 car crash during the 11th lap of the Las Vegas 300 in Turn 2, which put a very sad end to the 2011 IZOD Indy Car series.

Now here's something I just want to get off my chest. I'm a huge Formula 1 fan, and I tune in to the Indy Car series oh so rarely. However, it's still sad to see drivers pay a heavy price like this. I respect these drivers and we have to appreciate all motor sport athletes out there. They are risking their lives, not only for doing what they love most and for fame and fortune, but for the amusement of people like us. It's really upsetting, no matter if your a fan of Nascar, Rally, F1 etc.

He leaves behind his wife Susie and his two sons, Sebastian and Oliver. My thoughts are with each of the members of the Wheldon family. He was the 2005 Indy Car champion, and a 2 time winner of the Indianapolis 500.

I had great respect for him. In my mind I thought it was eerily similar to Greg Moore's crash. as Dan crash on turn 2 as Greg did. Even though it was not the same track, I thought they were similar. Also with Dan & greg's crashes it was at the final race of the season. Finally I thought is was very eerie that Dan was killed 2 weeks before the 12 anniversary of Greg Moore's crash. @JDiVito094 Thank you. I just ordered the cd off Amazon. This is one of the most beautiful tributes to Dan that I have seen, and I've seen most of them. He was my favorite and I can't believe he's gone. It's amazing to see how much people loved him and how much he will be missed. I don't think I can watch the 500 ever again. That track or Indy Car for that matter will never be the same without him. He was a true hero. Thanks again

Just goes to show what a truly wonderful man Dan was. If you notice when he came out with the other three drivers, Dan was the only one waving to the fans. This is one of the many reasons he is so loved by the fans. He shouldn't have died, and we are so sorry he left us. Farewell CHAMPION!
