High winds up to about 100 miles per hour in the Antarctic Sound on January 14, 2009 whip streamers of mist and spray off of the tops of the waves. The wind was a katabatic wind (a cold air mass more or less tumbling down a slope) blowing off of the nearby Dundee island near Paulet Island. The rainbow was caused by the mist blowing off of the ocean. It was not raining.
