The White House is slamming Fox News in an attempt to divert attention from the accounting firm PriceWaterHouse Coopers analysis of the Baucus bill. The study predicts that the Baucus plan would increase premiums for an average American family by $4,000 per year, a massive increase from a plan that purports to save costs.

PriceWaterHouse is the very image of inscrutable, objective accountants. No one will believe political partisan democrats with a social agenda over them.

Despite the fact that they both detest Fox and are generally ideologically aligned with this administration, Smith and Dickerson as professional journalists should, in no uncertain terms, denounce a White House attack on any news organization. This is petty and beneath the dignity of the office. They should be investing all of their energies into attacking the immense problems we face as a nation and letting the reporting chips fall where they may. Freedom of the press and let the people decide.
