Handling Stress, Test Anxiety, Hero's Journey by AOMA Acupuncture Graduate School Austin

In this free video presented by AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, Texas, Hannah Thornton speaks to first year students about handling stress and cultivating resilience. She demonstrates how the Hero's Journey metaphor can be used in handling stressful situations. The hero cycle or journey is an anthropological concept developed by Joseph Campbell.

This lecture is meant to offer students some support in handling stress, test anxiety and college tests themselves by helping to see the big picture and their overall goals.

AOMA Graduate School offers a master's-level graduate program in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. AOMA also conducts more than 20,000 patient visits annually in its student and professional clinics. AOMA includes traditional Asian mind-body practices such as tai chi and qigong as an integral part of the curriculum and is one of very few acupuncture schools to begin clinical education for students in the first term.

Visit the AOMA website for more information on enrolling, acupuncture treatment and more at:

  • Great presentation, Hannah!

  • Risilience is about puttin you with all sorts of c5@p and not complaining to anyone about how others treat you

  • Excellently done. I've never actually heard any of these talks, though I've been nearby.

  • Very nice!

  • So wonderful Hannah! Thanks - good to hear this again and again!

  • I love that somebody got Josephs work.

  • I like what you say people want the jump from start to finish to happen quickly, it doesn't happen unless people see the work you have put in, I guess thats a respect thing they want to see hard work, before rewards.

  • To resist you emotions?.... Maybe?

  • Resilience is: not being effect of opposition by (among other thing) staying on target or purpose. Level of intention, perception and understanding will monitor this trait.

  • teacher is pretty
